KĀKOU: Tap Into Democracy
KĀKOU is an iPhone app developed by the Hawaii Carpenters Market Recovery Program Fund. It falls under the category of Education & Reference and aims to make civic engagement in Hawaii easy. Designed exclusively for the Aloha State by Pacific Resource Partnership, this app allows users to connect with Hawaii's elected officials and actively participate in the legislative process.
The main features of KĀKOU include finding and contacting Hawaii's elected federal, state, and county officials. Users can also weigh in on hot button topics, send emails to legislative committees, track issues and bills of importance to non-profit community partners, and submit testimony. The app provides a comprehensive directory of Hawaii's elected officials, making it easy for users to phone or email lawmakers directly.
Additionally, KĀKOU offers the option to register and follow local non-profit community partners. By doing so, users will receive updates on legislation, meeting notifications, and can even submit testimony on bills directly from the app. As an incentive, each non-profit organization partner will receive $1 from Pacific Resource Partnership for every user that downloads the app and registers to follow their organization.
With KĀKOU, civic empowerment is just a tap away, allowing users to stay informed, involved, and connected with the democratic process in Hawaii.
